Professional fees

Fees for dental services vary from one dental practice to another. However, dentists must always inform their patients beforehand of the proposed treatment plan and costs, and obtain their agreement.

The Code of Ethics of Dentists states that a dentist must establish and charge fair and reasonable fees that correspond to the services rendered. The Order encourages patients to discuss fees with their dentist before treatment begins.

Examples of factors taken into account when determining fees

  • The time taken to provide the professional service
  • The complexity and extent of the service
  • Any disbursements and expenses incurred by the dentist

The Ordre des dentistes du Québec does not determine a dentist's fees, give any fees over the phone, or evaluate the fees charged by a particular dentist.
